Key Info
The school was founded in 1743 by Thomas Benet of Salthrop to ‘teach and instruct such and so many poor children born and living within the Parish of Broad Hinton as they in their discretion shall think meet in Reading, Writing and Accounting or the lasting of Accounts’. On 2nd June 1847 the school building was badly damaged by fire. Money was quickly raised for the re-building as the School Master’s house needed to be reinstated as high priority. In 1969 the Head Teacher ceased to live on the premises and so the house was made an integral part of the school. In 1975 the playing field was added to the grounds. There have been a number of significant developments to the accommodation since them – the most recent projects resulting in a new ICT suite, new classroom, staffroom, toilets (including disabled facilities), kitchen, conservatory and school hall.
