Curriculum
Our aim at Broad Hinton Church of England Primary School is to help your child to be self-confident, happy, cheerful, well balanced, enthusiastic and eager to put his/her best into all learning activities. We believe that each child needs to find enjoyment in a variety of aspects of school life and gain satisfaction from his/her own achievements. It is important for each child to develop the ability to control his/her behaviour and emotions as well as develop inventiveness and creativity, in their own individual way, in order to cope with lifes diverse experiences. Teachers use a range of teaching strategies involving whole class teaching, group work and individual learning. Work is differentiated in the class with the aim of allowing each child to reach their full potential. In our creative curriculum, we endeavour to give the children in our care every opportunity to succeed. Through a topic based approach, where each class will be taught the skills required in life through an umbrella topic title. These may include: Human life, forces and motion, light and sound, electricity Victorians, houses and homes, toys, Ancient Greeks and Egyptians, The Great Fire of London Local area, environmental issues, a contrasting locality in Britain or around the world, rivers, mountains and weather. The school has a 2-year rolling programme of topic themes each lasting approximately 6 weeks of learning and during this time the class teacher will endeavour to link as many subjects through this learning. Some subjects will not lend themselves to this type of teaching and therefore will be taught as discrete themes within the class timetable. At Broad Hinton School we encourage the use of practical activities, visits and visitors to enhance the learning further and to this end we also enjoy building into our academic year themed weeks/days focusing on one subject or skill. Themed weeks/days have included: book week, art week, Black History week, e-safety week, maths day and healthy lifestyle week.
